Bedtime Battles

Ever since March we have been having a night time battle getting Ella to go to sleep. This past week we created some sleep rules and hung them on the door in Ella's room. She made a list of her demands and I made a list of mine. Here are the rules:

Ella's Sleep Rules:
  1. Turn on the night light
  2. Turn on the fan
  3. Do not let naughty people, naughty animals, or naughty lions into the house.
  4. Mommy & Daddy be right downstairs, right in the shower, and sleep in the green room
  5. Mommy & Daddy check on her

Mommy's Sleep Rules:
  1. Read 2 books and sing 1 song
  2. Say prayer
  3. When Mommy & Daddy leave the room, it's time to GO TO SLEEP
  4. NO crying and NO yelling
  5. Stay in your bed
  6. Mommy & Daddy will see you in the morning
  7. If you follow the rules, you get M&Ms, stickers, and special privledges

Ella loved making the sleep rules posters and thinks they are really neat hanging on her door, but so far she has been unsuccessful in following them. Even though we go through the sleep rules just prior to going to bed, as soon as we leave the room she starts chanting (and yelling) her bedtime mantra, "I no like naughty lions. I want Mommy to come check on me. I need a kiiiissss and a hhhuuuggg. Mommmmy, Dadddddy, Mommmy, Dadddddy....., Daddy no let naughty animals into the house......"
