We arrived back home from our 3-week trip to the USA last week. The Rugby World Cup is kicking off in New Zealand. New Plymouth is decorated with the flags of different countries that will be hosted in New Plymouth during the event. Each street of downtown is decorated with a different country. We were walking down the USA block and there are American flags everywhere. I said to the kids, "Look at all of the American flags. What do you think they are for?" Ella replied, "I think maybe they're welcoming us home."
Owen's speech has really taken off, but he still has some sounds that he hasn't mastered. He pronounces all "C" sounds as "T" sounds and all "F" sounds as "P" sounds. Here are some examples: Baby Tooper (Cooper), Grandma Berta's dog Pipi (Fifi), toppee (coffee), I go to stool (school), Amerita (America), Grandma Berta lives in Tuster (Custer)
Here's one of Owen's common responses when arguing with Ella: "No I aren't"
The other day I was showing something to Ella and she responded with, "Cool as". This is a common kiwi saying (sweet as, cool as, awesome as, cold as) meaning cool as [something that is very cool]. Any adjective followed by as is used.
After our 3-week trip to the USA, Owen was so confused as to where we were at when we landed in New Plymouth. We were riding in the cab back to our house and Owen says, "I go to the Purple Pie Place?" When we asked him where we were at he said, "Tuster?" We hadn't even gone to the Purple Pie Place (dessert shop) in Custer, but we had driven by and he was fascinated with it.
A few nights ago I was on the phone with Andrea and Owen said, "I talk to Annie?" I gave him the phone and on his own asked, "What Baby Tooper doing?"
